Plant City Fire Rescue responded to a call about a sinkhole at a home at 3517 Trapnell Grove Loop. May 7.
Battalion Chief Rick Sullivan responded at about 10:30 a.m. to find a 4 by 10 foot wide sinkhole. It is about five feet deep. The sinkhole is located in the back corner of the back yard, close to the property line.
“It’s nowhere near the home itself,” EMC Chief Jim Wilson said. “Because of the fact that there is not any lives in danger and it is not near businesses, we’ve deferred the homeowners to a specialist.”
Sullivan said, the home looked vacant. Responders knocked on the door which was never answered. They also looked in the windows to see empty rooms. He was unsure who called in about the sinkhole.
The surrounding area has been known to have sinkholes.
“A few years ago we were having a whole bunch,” Sullivan said. “The area is prevalent for sinkholes.”
