Durant baseball standout Tyler Danish is the 2013 winner of the Florida Baseball Player of the Year Award.
Danish announced that he had won the award Tuesday night via Twitter. “Blessed to find out tonight that I won Player of the Year in Florida,” he tweeted.
The senior right hander, who is committed to the University of Florida, finished the regular season with a 10-1 record and an impressive 0.00 ERA. He also had 107 strike outs and allowed just five total runs and 10 walks in 62 innings pitched in the regular season.
Danish also led the Cougars in hitting with a .368 avg., 21 RBI and five home runs during the regular season. On Tuesday, Danish helped to lead his team to the 8A-7 district championship game with a 6-0 win over Plant.
The star not only kept his season streak of no earned runs allowed alive, he also homered in the win. Durant will face Wharton at 7 p.m. Thursday in a rematch of last year’s 8A-7 championship game.
While committed to Florida since he was a sophomore, Danish is expected to be taken in the early rounds of the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft.
