Tanishka Aglave, a student at Strawberry Crest High School received the $10,000 H. Robert Horvitz Prize for Fundamental Research at the Society for Science’s 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. Tanishka was awarded this prize because of her research to attempt to find a natural alternative treatment for citrus greening. Homes for Heroes and Pulte Group handed the keys to a new home for veteran Jose Santiago and his family.
Breanna Coleman, 23, co-chair of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Support Group, and her mother, Samantha Coleman, organized the Berries and Bones Gala, a fundraiser dedicated to supporting the OI Foundation. The new Friends of the Plant City Police Department Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its office provided by McGrath Poppell & Company at 212 North Collins Street. City residents and business owners began forming the Foundation in 2023 to provide open support for the Plant City Police Department (PCPD). It is not a part of the PCPD. The Boy Scouts presented the Soaring Eagle Award to Dr. Felix Haynes. Haynes was selected for the award because of his “Honesty, integrity, and outstanding community contribution” to Plant City. Robert Smith was one of the 75 veterans given the opportunity to take part in the most recent Honor Flight of West Central Florida. Plant City celebrated Juneteenth with a parade and festival.
