2024 Year in Review: November

Voters in the U.S. elected Donald Trump and JD Vance as president and vice president, with 312 electoral votes to 226 electoral votes for the Harris/Walz ticket. In local races, Rick Scott (U.S. Senator), Laurel Lee (U.S. House), Danny Burgess (Florida Senate), Lawrence McClure (Florida House), and Suzy Lopez (State Attorney) won their races. More than 500 people attended the sixth annual Plant City Veteran’s Luncheon at the Trinkle Center on Hillsborough Community College’s campus. Attorney Harley Herman made a motion to intervene on behalf of the entity, Save Walden Lake, Inc. The residents requested the motion to intervene to gain the right to speak in negotiations for development of the property that was first a golf course. The Florida Strawberry Festival purchased eight parcels of land from South Florida Baptist Hospital. The eight lots total six acres of land. After a seven-month absence, City Commissioner Michael Sparkman returned to City Commission meetings “It’s been a long path,” Sparkman commented. “But I have had an awful lot of support…It turned out I wound up having six brain surgeries since April. I told my wife a couple of weeks ago I felt like I wanted to come back and be a part of the Commission, and at least finish up my two-year pledge.”
