$50,000 OF SILVER RECOVERED IN DOVER

Following a burglary investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) made an arrest and recovered more than $50,000 in silver coins, bars, and firearms.

Deputies responded to a burglary of a residence on November 8 at 10:12 p.m. on the 2100 block of Herndon Street in Dover. Three firearms were reported stolen from the residence. During the investigation, detectives identified Justin Reeves, 34, as a possible suspect.

The HCSO Targeted Crime Unit located Reeves on November 13 while driving in Dover and apprehended him after they observed a traffic violation. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

During a search of Reeves’ vehicle, deputies found heavy bags containing a large quantity of collectible silver coins and silver bars. Detectives continued their investigation and learned the coins and silver bars were taken from an unreported burglary within Hillsborough County. Detectives contacted the elderly victim and learned they were out of town during the burglary.

Detectives also searched Reeves’ residence, where they found two of the three stolen firearms, along with additional coins and silver bars. Reeves is a 10-time convicted felon who was released from prison in August.

“Thanks to excellent investigative work by our units, we were able to return stolen property to its rightful owners,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our top priority is keeping our community safe and making sure brazen criminals like this one are held responsible.”

Reeves has been charged with:

Armed Burglary of a Dwelling

Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance

Felon in Possession of a Firearm
