All thee area high school football teams will be in the same district next fall if the tentative realignment the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), released Friday, holds up.
The realignment has Plant City High, Durant High and Strawberry Crest in Class 7A District 8. This would start in the 2013 season and continue through the 2014 season, before another two-year realignment takes place the following spring. This realignment will only be for football, but other reclassifications for other sports will be announced early next year.
This will mark the first time that all three area schools would be in the same district for football. Durant and Plant City are currently together in 7A District 8, but Strawberry Crest, which opened in 2009 and played in 6A last season, will be moving up.
Brandon and East Bay will remain in 7A District 8 to make up the five-team district, if the realignment remains as projected.
Newsome and Riverview, which played in 7A District 8 for the past two seasons, will be moving to 8A District 6.
