Zy Floyd

Strawberry Crest senior, Zy Floyd, plays quarterback for the Strawberry Crest Chargers. In the home opener vs Brandon, Floyd broke Crest’s record for the most passing touchdowns in a single game with 4.

How does it feel to break Crest’s record for most passing touchdowns in a single game in the home opener?

It meant a lot to me, especially it being the first home game on the new field. I feel like it boosted the team morale, and it was very important for the receivers, too. They all put in a lot of work this off season so I’m glad it’s paying off.

Speaking of home opener, how much of an impact is it playing at home compared to being on the road?

Our last home game was over 9 months ago so being able to be back in that home game atmosphere and having friends and family come support the team felt great, but I also love playing away games because you can take away that teams spirit and feels great on the bus ride back after a big win.

What’s the potential of this Crest football team this year?

Our potential is yet to come. I believe we haven’t come close yet to playing our best football. we’ve shown glimpses of what Crest potential is, but reaching our ceiling is all going to come down to showing up every day at practice. Not just winning the games on Friday night but by winning every day before wether it’s watching more film than the other team or putting in more field time, whatever it takes is what we need to do to reach this teams full potential.

Which game left on the

schedule for this season are you looking forward to the most and why?

A game everyone is hyped for is Crest vs Plant City. It’s our only rivalry and I feel like we’ve got a lot to prove this year especially since we lost to them last year and them being a district rival, too. Beating them will be vital to us getting in the playoffs.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

No, actually I just make sure to pray by our field post before every game, since I tore my acl last season, I do stretch lot throughout the day to make sure my knees ready for Friday night.

Has football taught you any life lessons? If so, what are they?

It’s taught me that you’re going to have to face adversity in life. Not everything is going to go your way but what really matters is how you respond.

Do you have any hobbies or interest outside of football?

I like to stay active outside of football whether it’s working out or going out on the boat or just going to do stuff with friends, but it’s been hard this past year since knee surgery. I’ve been rehabbing my knee a lot since the surgery but I haven’t been able to do as much as I’ve been used to growing up.

Which current NFL

quarterback would you compare your game to?

Joe Burrow, I feel like we both are very decisive and quick with our throws. I also like the confidence he brings to his team. It is important for a quarterback to be confident in his craft because the whole team is looking at them at all times.

What’s your favorite touchdown celebration?

something I’ve kept through the past couple years is the bow and arrow but my wide out like to create cellys every now and then and I’m there for it.

What’s your top-3 songs to get you hyped and ready for game day?

One is “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac. I have a very versatile playlist when it comes to getting ready for a game so I couldn’t narrow it down to three.
