Jayden Cornelius

Jayden Cornelius plays wide receiver and cornerback for Durant High School. He and the Cougars are coming off a big 53-6 win vs Wharton where Jayden had a pick 6!

How does it feel for you and the team to get back in the win column?

It feels good, we had a shaky two weeks, to say the least. But I think it made us better as a whole in the long run. Now we’re just focusing on our next opponent and getting better at our craft.

Can you walk me through that pick 6 you had in this past week’s game against Wharton?

My teammate, Hunter, hit the receiver as he touched the ball and I saw the ball in the air, went and got it and I saw another wide receiver coming to tackle me so I made a move and looked to score.

If you go to college for football, would you try going the Travis Hunter route by playing both WR/CB, or would you just do one?

If I got the opportunity to, I would do both. I think I am capable of doing it.

How long have you been playing football?

I have been playing since middle school.

Is there an NFL player you model your game after?

Jaire Alexander, CB for the Green Bay Packers

Which game left in the regular season are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to all three district games left on our schedule, we’ve got to win all of them.

If you’re not playing football, what are you

doing in your free time?

I like to fish and go bowling.

If you could give advice to a kid wanting to improve being a WR, what tips would you give him?

I would tell him that focus is important, attacking leverage, understanding defenses, and having good hands.

What’s your favorite thing about Coach Claybo?

I like how he holds us accountable. I feel like it shows in our games on Friday.

What are your favorite songs to get you hyped for game day?

 Young boy and Sweater weather
