Oscar Valdez
Oscar Valdez is a junior at Plant City High School and is a defensive end for the Raiders varsity football team.
What was a key factor in your transferring from Strawberry Crest to Plant City?
A lot of reasons, but mainly exposure in going to the next level with football.
How did it feel returning to Crest and walking out with a win?
It honestly felt amazing knowing how long I’ve come and how much better I’ve gotten.
How long have you been playing football?
I’ve been playing for about 7 years now.
What’s your favorite career play?
It is definitely sacking one of my closest friends at Crest since he was their QB. I’ll also add the Alonso game where I had a huge hit on the quarterback.
If switched from defense to offense, what position would you pick and why?
Well, I do play both sides. I play tight end so I would play tight end if I were to switch positions.
If you’re not playing football, what are you doing in your free time?
It’s a balance between working out, spending time with friends, and also hanging out with my little sister Isla.
What’s a sport that you haven’t played competitively that you’d want to try out and why?
Definitely golf. I’ve always thought it was pretty fun and cool.
Has football taught you any life lessons? If so, what are they?
Football has taught me so much and, honestly, has made me who I am today. But one thing it taught me is to no matter what, never give up and always keep going 110%. No matter what, even when it feels like you can’t no more, keep going.
What’s your favorite song(s) to get you hyped for game day?
oh it’s definitely “neva cared” by Polo G.
Who’s an artist you want to see perform at the Strawberry Festival in 2025?
I gotta go with my boy Nelly.
