Landon Hughes

Landon is 10 years old and attends Lincoln Elementary. He’s on the Principal’s Honor Roll and National Junior Honor Society. He is on the Plant City Lancers U11 Boys Premier team.

How long have you been playing soccer?

Four years.

What position do you play in soccer?

Center Defensive Midfielder (CDM)

What’s your favorite thing about soccer?

Playing at a fast pace and moving the ball around the field to create scoring opportunities for my teammates.

If you could change one rule in soccer, what would it be and why?

I would like it if the refs didn’t call unintentional handballs because other players kick the ball at your hand and you are not able to remove your hand in time before it gets hit.

What’s another sport you haven’t played yet that you’d like to try and why?

Flag football because I like juking out defenders and the speed of play. I played Plant City Rec and NFL Minis and scored a ton of touchdowns.

When you’re not playing soccer, what are you doing in your free time?

I’m either reading or hanging out with my family and friends.

If you could make your own soccer team, what would you name it and why?

I’d name it after our teams’ locations and add “Footballers Club,” for example, Plant City Footballers Club. I like that name because it has a nice ring to it.

If you could make your own soccer team,

what colors would the jerseys be and why?

At home games, I wanna wear a light gray to keep us cool in the Florida heat and for away games, I’d wear a mix of red and black because those two colors fade together.

If someone wanted to play soccer for the first time, what advice would you give them?

Always play to the whistle, play through the ball, and play at a fast pace because you can learn technique later. Aggression is hard to learn.

10. What do you want to be when you grow up and why?

When I grow up, I wanna be a Major League Soccer (MLS) player, and if that doesn’t work out, I’ll figure out Plan B when I’m older.
