A 7-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition at Tampa General Hospital after being struck by a vehicle Friday, Feb. 3.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the boy was hit at about 7 a.m. by a vehicle at North Forbes Road and W.J. Valley Road in Plant City.
Shirley Bowman was driving her blue 2003 Jeep Liberty southbound on Forbes Road this morning with four passengers in her car. She was traveling at about 45 miles per hour.
The boy was waiting in the driveway of 619 Forbes Road to cross the street for the bus stop at Busser Lane and Forbes Road. As a lawn care truck passed northbound, the boy darted into the path of the Jeep.
According to the HCSO, Bowman did not have time to avoid the crash and struck the boy. None of the Jeep passengers were injured in the crash.
The boy, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was transported to the hospital by an Aero-Med helicopter. Following the accident, North Forbes Road was shut down between W.J. Valley Road and Pearl May Circle.
The boy, while still in critical condition, is stable.
Bowman, according to the HCSO, was fully cooperative and provided a voluntary blood draw. No charges are expected in this case.
