A crash Tuesday evening involving a semi and a Chevy pickup has left one driver in critical condition, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
At 6:21 p.m. the 53-year-old driver of the Chevy vehicle was driving westbound on U.S. 92 east of Park Road when the traffic ahead of him came to a stop. He swerved and entered the eastbound lane of U.S. 92 and his Chevy struck the front of a semi truck, according to the report. Both vehicles rotated and came to a rest on the south shoulder of the roadway.
The driver of the Chevy is a resident of Plant City and was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, according to the report. His identity will not be released due to next of kin having yet to be informed. The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as Wayne Newton, 64, of Auburndale. He reportedly has no injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the event.
U.S. 92 was closed in both directions, but the lanes have since been reopened.
