BREAKING NEWS: Train crash at S.R. 39

A train collided with a portion of a flatbed tractor trailer at about 6 a.m. Monday, June 17.

The unloaded flatbed tractor trailer operated by Creekside Nursery Inc., of Dade City, turned off of State Road 39 onto a private dirt road to the entrance of Cone Ranch. The driver, Hector Villavicencio-Ferrer, 64, stopped the tractor-trailer and exited to open a gate to the property.  The positioning of the stopped tractor trailer left a portion of its trailer on the railway.

A southbound CSX train transporting 137 box cars subsequently hit the tractor-trailer. The impact forced the vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway.

No derailment occurred as a result of the crash.

None of the three operators on the train was injured.

Villavicencio-Ferrer was sited for improper stopping on the railroad tracks.

The collision caused about $10,000 of damage to the train and $5,000 of damage to the tractor-trailer.
