Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a Plant City man who shot at a driver today in Riverview.
James H. Reynolds Jr., 23, of Plant City, and his attorney met with detectives tonight, at the Orient Road Jail, where he was taken into custody.
According to Sheriff’s Office reports, at about 3:20 p.m. Nov. 7, a road-rage incident occurred between James Gritzinger, of Riverview, and James Reynolds Sr., the suspect’s father, while traveling south on U.S. 301, approaching Rhodine Road. Reynolds Sr. called his son, Reynolds Jr., and advised him of the situation and that their direction of travel was east on Rhodine Road.
About one mile east of U.S. 301, Gritzinger and Reynolds Sr. exited their vehicles and engaged in a physical altercation on the side of Rhodine Road. Gritzinger then got back into his vehicle and continued east, toward the intersection of Balm Riverview Road and Rhodine Road.Reynolds Jr. was there waiting for him, standing on the southwest corner of the intersection.
As Gritzinger came to a stop at the stop sign, Reynolds Jr. opened fire with a laser sight-equipped pistol, striking the front passenger side door three times and the passenger side of the windshield once.
Gritzinger sped off and was not injured.
