Hundreds came out for the for the 2013 Strawberry Distance Challenge 5K Saturday morning at Walden Lake. Nearly 400 runners participated in this year’s race, coming from around the Tampa Bay area, across the state and even throughout the country. The annual race has become a popular event leading up to the Florida Strawberry Festival.

It’s been 120 years since the Allen Chapel AME Church held its first church service in a one-room framed house located between Laura, Alabama and Lake streets. The area was known as the Roux Mill. The congregation used boxes for benches and flaming torches for lights. The church is deep-rooted in history and tradition.
