+ Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce

The Business of the Year Awards banquet will take place Thursday, Nov. 7, at the John R. Trinkle Center, 2206 E. Cherry St. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:15 p.m. The program will begin at 8 p.m. RSVP by Oct. 31 to (813) 754-3707.

+ 2013 Veterans Day Program

Hopewell Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens will present its 28th annual Veterans Day Program beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Memorial Monument Park, 703 N. Wheeler St.

Students from area schools will be presenting speeches on the significance of Veterans Day.

+ Plant City Democrats

A new group of active Plant City Democrats group is planning a political event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Courier Field, 703 N. Wheeler St.

+ K9 Kids Camp

K9 Kids Camp is partnering with several Plant City organizations and businesses to host its Presidents 4 Pets campaign, in honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.

The camp, along with the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, Animal Wellness Center of Plant City, Turkey Creek Animal Hospital and Linda’s Pet Stop Grooming, will host a collection drive to benefit pets in shelters and provide items needed to help keep shelters operational, and animals comfortable and safe.

Individuals who wish to make a donation can drop off  items at either the Animal Wellness Center, 3109 S.R. 574 W., or Turkey Creek Animal Hospital, 4645 U.S. 92. K9 Kids Camp Pet Sitters also will pick up donations through Nov. 15.

+ Plant City Christmas Parade Inc.

Dodie White will serve as the grand parade marshal for the 2013 Plant City Christmas Parade.

White selected as part of a unanimous decision by the parade’s board of directors. She has contributed years of service to the community, including at Plant City Entertainment Inc., the Arts Council of Plant City, Veterans Memorial Foundation Monument Committee, American Cancer Society, Neighborhood Village and Ambassador for the Florida Strawberry Festival, Celebrity Chef Committee for the United Food Bank, and a member of the Trustees & Entertainment committee at First United Methodist Church, and more

Sponsorships are still available for the Plant City’s Christmas Parade, which will take place Friday, Dec. 6.

+ Girl’s Auxiliary Life Support

The first project for the Girl’s Auxiliary Life Support, a Diaper Drive for the Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at the center, 304 N. Collins St..

The group will collect donations of cash or diapers at the center’s parking lot. The girls also will be collecting diapers on their own before the event day.

The Girls Auxillary Life Support is a new group of girls under 18 who want to help with the center but who are too young to work directly with clients.
