The Florida Strawberry Festival’s board of directors elected a new president Tuesday, April 14, at its monthly meeting.
Dan Walden, who has served as a board member for 15 years, was elected president and succeeds James “Jim” Jeffries, who has served as president for the past two years.
“Dan Walden is an excellent leader and board member,” said Florida Strawberry Festival General Manager Paul Davis. “We are privileged to have a man like him as our new president.”
Sandee Parke Sytsma was elected vice president; Floyd Hall, who was elected secretary; and W.D. “Dub” McGinnes, who was elected treasurer.
The Florida Strawberry Festival’s board of directors is the governing body of the 11 day event and is made up of 30 individuals: 16 board members and 14 associate board members. Each year, four board members are elected to serve on the executive board, made up of a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Generally, each president has previously served two years in each office before being elected to the highest office, said Davis.
“Our board of directors is made up of a very giving and talented group of individuals,” said Davis. “They each have a passion for our festival and will serve us well in the coming year.”
