Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Jeremy Griner to the Hillsborough County Court. He will fill the seat created by the resignation of Judge John Conrad.
Griner has focused his 11-year career on civil litigation. Since 2016, he has operated his own firm in Plant City, where he has represented more than 800 clients with their legal claims. Prior to opening his own practice, he was a senior associate at Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman, LLP.
Griner has also been active in his community. He is a member of the Plant City Rotary Club and has served on the boards of Plant City Main Street and Bruton Memorial Library. He mentored youth in Hillsborough County’s Take Stock in Children program.
Griner earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. He earned his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law.
“I was honored to receive the appointment. Governor DeSantis had many well-qualified candidates to select, and I’m humbled to be our next County Court Judge,” Griner said.
His appointment starts Oct. 28. In the meantime, he is in the process of closing his law firm. “It’s somewhat bittersweet to close my law firm. I’ve helped so many people in private practice, but I’m excited to transition into public service and serve our community as a member of the the judicial branch,” he said.
He will begin his time on the bench at the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Downtown Tampa and serve as a judge in the County Civil Division. This division hears civil cases wherein the amount in controversy does not exceed $50,000 including, but not limited to, small claims cases, landlord-tenant disputes, insurance claims and other civil matters. “I’ve already been shadowing a few of the local judges, who have been very welcoming and eager to share their knowledge and expertise,” he said.
Even though his career as a judge will begin in Tampa, he hopes to transition to the Plant City Courthouse as soon as possible. “Plant City is our home. It’s where my wife and I are raising our family. This is our community, and at the end of the day, my goal is to serve this community as a judge at the Plant City Courthouse,” said Griner.
