Holy Protection Orthodox Church is celebrating its 30-year anniversary with a special service Sunday, Oct. 4.
Lunch will be provided by Svetlana Kouzmova, as the church will also be commemorating her sister, Valentina, for the 40th day of her passing.
Holy Protection Orthodox Church began in 1985 as a small mission church and monastery. The church was founded by Father Anastasjie Arthur Starr (Starkovic), who served until his passing in 2003. At that time, Father Harry Linsinbigler was appointed to lead the parish.
Today, the church has several ministries, which include Christian education, prayer ministry, addiction and recovery, faith health services, family ministry, and nursing home outreach. Services are held every Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
To mark the anniversary, the parish is also working on a living history by creating a timeline with current and former members to map out significant events in the 30-year history of the church. Over the next several weeks, this will be done following each Sunday service during the fellowship coffee hour.
Linsinbiglerwill also be starting a weeknight group class in the next few weeks on strengthening marriage. More information can be found at holyorthodox.org or by emailing Linsinbigler at fatherharryL3@yahoo.com. The church is also on Facebook.
