DOWN, SET, HIKE…

For one local coach, ensuring that his team experiences a great year of football is essential. Phillip Prior, football coach at Strawberry Crest High School, always searches for fundraisers that involve the players, families, friends, and the community as a whole, all while having fun. Prior has been coaching for 15 years and is heading into his sixth year of coaching at Strawberry Crest High School. It is no secret that playing sports is expensive, as the team needs money for food, equipment, video production, and other expenses. Prior came up with the idea of a clay shoot as their annual fundraiser.

The Strawberry Crest High School Football team has chosen this clay shoot as their main fundraiser for four years now. Prior says that every year, the fundraiser grows, and more people join. He purposefully hosts it two weeks before football practice starts so that the players and community can get excited for the year ahead. Prior wants to involve the local community in his football program because he knows how much this community loves and supports the youth.

This year, the 2024 Strawberry Crest Football Clay Shoot will take place on July 20. The tournament will be held at Fishhawk Sporting Clays on 13505 Hobson Simmons Rd., Lithia. Check-in time will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the tournament will start at 10:00 a.m. The deadline to register for this event is July 15. The cost per shooter is $125, which includes breakfast, lunch, shells, golf carts, and a t-shirt. Not only will participants get the chance to engage in a fun, clay shooting activity, but there will also be raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and prizes.

The title sponsor of this year’s event is Tosca Roofing Inc. This company supports the state of Florida with high-quality roofs that exceed industry standards in installations. Sponsorships are a great way to support the football team, and also get your company’s name out. Prior says that each sponsor will receive a banner that will be posted around their football stadium through the duration of the year.
