Durant High School will be hosting its first annual mock interview day for local companies and national corporations on Wednesday, Nov. 18. About 80 speech students will implement their newly acquired skills.
The Nov. 18 event is the culminating event in a three-week unit on the interviewing process. The unit included multiple speeches and activities such as formal introductions, highlighting positive traits and skills, researching participating companies and crafting and tailoring resumes to specific jobs.
Students even conducted their own interviews of citizens about speech and anxiety, and how successfully they dealt with it. One student was able to contact State Commissioner of Education, Pam Stewart, to speak with her about how she handles speaking publicly to large groups.
Participating companies include Moe’s, PacSun, Campo YMCA, Panera, TECO Energy, Shane Inland and Tampa Bay Steel.
