Durant High School right handed pitcher Tyler Danish was selected in the second round (55th overall) by the Chicago White Sox Thursday in the 2013 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Danish helped his Durant Cougars team to the 8A state semifinals by being one of the most dominate high school pitchers in the country. Danish finished his senior season with a 0.00 ERA in 94 innings pitched. Danish was 15-1 on the mound for the Cougars and recorded 156 strikeouts, compared to just 16 walks. He also hit for a .411 average and 27 RBI with nine home runs.
After the selection, Danish had this to say via Twitter: “Thanks to all the support from my friends and family. (It’s) a dream come true for me and my dad looking down on me! We made it dad!”
Danish was projected as a top three round pick depending on his signability. The RHP has been committed to the University of Florida since his junior season with Durant.
