Dynamic Sports and Learning Academy, a Plant City-based nonprofit that works with young athletes, is getting ready to get back on the field starting next week.
DSLA started offering free athletic training services last June to area youths up to age 18 at Marshall Middle Magnet School’s track and field, 18 S. Maryland Ave. The program was centered on building overall athletic ability rather than focusing entirely on one sport, so those who attended the weekly training sessions got a healthy dose of cardio, speed, quickness and agility training in.
Though DSLA eventually postponed the sessions due to the then-incoming school year — which created a huge ordeal for parents, teachers and students with its rollout — it’s finally coming back next Tuesday, Jan. 12.
As before, the sessions will be held at Marshall and all participants are asked to bring their own water and cleats. Masks are optional but all athletes and parents will be required to sign a medical waiver before participating in activities. Sessions will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, though additional times may be added. Last summer, the group also hosted Saturday morning sessions.
DSLA also offers tutoring sessions from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Sadye Gibbs Martin Community Center, 1601 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Those sessions will restart next Monday, Jan. 11.
