To recognize Earth Day, a tree planting event will take place at the Plant City Commons Community Garden, on April 22.
The garden is located on the Hillsborough Community College – Plant City campus, at 2001 E. Cherry St.
The function is hosted by the Plant City Area Democratic Club and will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition to refreshments, there will be speakers who will talk about the importance of the environment.
“Mostly it will be just trying to celebrate Earth Day and rally people to continue their commitment, or make a commitment, to do what they can to save the planet,” said C.T. Townsend of the Democratic Club.
Those in attendance can assist in planting what is called a Florida Glo Peach Tree in the “Fruit Forest.”
The gentleman who oversees the planting will also educate attendees on how to plant a tree for themselves.
“They have a single peach tree and we wanted to get another one that was of a particular variety that would do well in the Plant City area,” Townsend said. “I hope that we’ll be able to expose people to the community garden and encourage them to join and be a participant there. It’s a great resource for the community.”
