A private plane crashed at the airport at 12:55 a.m. after failing to clear the perimeter fence.
A midnight flight went awry last night after a private plane failed to successfully take off from the runway at Plant City Airport, 4007 Airport Road, according to a report from Plant City Police Department.
At approximately 12:55 a.m. on June 11, a small private airplane attempted to take off at the airport but did not successfully clear the perimeter fence located on the west side of the property near Turkey Creek Road, according to the report.
The plane crashed and came to rest in a field west of Turkey Creek Road. Plant City Fire Rescue responded to the scene where the report said the two occupants of the plane sustained minor injuries, however they refused treatment.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and will conduct an independent investigation. The report said the airport had a representative respond as well and they secured the aircraft for the F.A.A investigation.
