A toddler in serious condition has been airlifted to Tampa General Hospital after a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s detective saw him in the mouth of a 50-pound dog.
At about 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, Detective Jeffrey Harris was investigating an auto theft with a business owner at 3701 E. Trapnell Road when he saw the dog, a boxer breed, with “something in his mouth,” according to the Sheriff’s office. Harris and the business owner walked closer and realized the dog had Michael Diaz, 2, in his mouth.
Harris ran toward the dog to scare it off while the business owner went to the child’s house, where he met with the child’s mother. The child lives near the business on Kendrick Court.
The dog belongs to the family of the child.
Animal Services has responded to the scene.
