Flag Football: Eight area athletes make All-Western Conference

Eight area high school flag football players have been named to the All-Western Conference team.

Plant City High led the list with five players. Sophomore quarterback Avery Brown, senior rusher Shay Wright, senior wide receiver Ali Grimmel and senior wideout Kristen Wyckoff all made the Federal Division First-Team, while sophomore defender Jada Youngblood made the Second-Team.

The Lady Raiders finished the year 11-1 overall, losing to East Bay in the FHSAA play-in first round game. Plant City won its fifth district title in six years with a win over Durant in the district championship.

Durant sophomore wide reveiver Ashley Piechowiak and junior quarterback Jessica McClernan made the First-Team, while senior rusher Sidney Millard was named to the Second-Team. The Lady Cougars finished as the district runner-up in 2013.

East Bay coach Michael Cooper was named 2013 Wester Conference Coach of the Year.
