Florida Senate passes “choice in sports” bill

The Florida Senate passed SB 684 today, just over a month after approving its language without discussion.

If law, the "choice in sports" bill will allow any high school students to transfer at any time with immediate athletic eligibility, provided that they aren't serving a suspension or expulsion punishment. The 132-page bill also includes language that could reward some state universities – namely UCF and, potentially, USF – with performance-based financial incentives.

The next step for the bill is to be seen in the Florida House, which has approved a similar bill in the past.
