Diners at Fred’s Market Thursday, Aug. 6, had their meals interrupted after a smoker in the back of the restaurant caught fire.
The restaurant was evacuated when smoke started to fill the kitchen and dining room. A call went out to Plant City Fire Rescue at about 8 p.m. Firefighters were on scene in about one minute.
“There was still a little bit of the fire inside the stack (when we arrived),” Battalion Chief Rick Sullivan said.
Firefighters checked the restaurant to make sure all customers and employees had evacuated, then they extinguished the rest of the flames.
Diners were able to go back inside after about thirty minutes.
