On Tuesday morning, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a large barn fire on Reece Road. At 5:28 A.M., its Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call from people reporting heavy fire coming from a “barn full of chemicals.” Units reported seeing a large column of smoke from a distance and called a working fire. The first arriving engine was met with an approximately 2000 square foot barn fully consumed in fire. Residents on the scene reported no occupants were in the barn. Crews deployed handlines to battle the blaze defensively from outside the barn. Our hazmat team determined there were no hazards related to the chemicals that were in the barn.
It took firefighters 25 minutes to put the fire out completely. There were no injuries to civilians or first responders. The fire investigations unit was unable to determine a definitive cause.
