A $375,984 contract has been put out for construction of roadway and utility improvements on South Howard Street.
Howard Street is subject to flooding during rainstorms. To eliminate the flooding, the road will be reconstructed to provide better drainage. The road construction will also bring the road in compliance with current roadway standards. The construction requires utilities to be relocated, including electrical power, fiber optic communications lines, and the city’s potable water mains and sewer collection system.
Three bids were submitted for the work with Kamminga & Roodvoets Inc. providing the lowest bid. The other bids were submitted by BUN Construction Company, $375,984, and Ajax Paving Industries of Florida Inc., $437,790.
The work for the construction contract includes removing the existing pavement surface features, such as mailboxes and fences, and the utility lines.
A new 450-foot road will be constructed. New utility lines will be installed including TECO power lines, Verizon communication lines, a new water distribution main and a wastewater collection system.
The construction will be partially funded by a $177,312 Community Development Block Grant through Hillsborough County. The city will pay $180,898 from road maintenance and utility replacement sources.
