As repulsive as some people think they are, the Rainbow Scarab (commonly known as a Dung Beetle) plays an important role in recycling nutrients and assisting with soil aeration. Their vibrant colors are accentuated when sunlight hits their iridescent shell due to the way the light reflects and refracts off the microscopic structures on the beetle’s exoskeleton. These beetles can truly shine and show off their stunning colors in the sunny climate of Florida. Photo taken by Stephanie Hrenchir
