Today at 2 p.m. Inspire! Quilting and Sewing, 101 N. Collins St., will host a raffle to help 15-year-old Jacob Meachum who was injured June 3 after a sport-utility vehicle hit the ATV he was riding on.
Inspire! Quilting and Sewing is selling $1 tickets for Team Jacob’s quilt raffle. The prize is a Jacob’s Ladder quilt which was pieced by Dianne Bryant and quilted by Beverly Higgins with fabric donated by Inspire! Quilting and Sewing.
“The quilt is beautiful,” co-owner Lynn Haberl says. “It’s beautifully sewn. It would be a well-loved quilt to add to any collection.”
Proceeds will go to help pay for Jacob’s medical expenses.
Meachum was thrown from the ATV and sustained a traumatic brain injury. The driver of the SUV was drinking and driving, speeding 21 mph over the speed limit, had no insurance and was driving with a suspended license.
In September, Jacob still had yet to regain consciousness. Now the resilient fighter is not only conscious, he has been let out of the hospital, is speaking and will be at the raffle to help.
“[We want] to keep it in the community and help local people when they need help,” Harberl says.
The idea for the raffle first came up when Jacob’s family approached Inspire! Quilting and Sewing.
