Editor,
This letter is in response to a former WLCA board member who said they were against the rezoning until advised by attorneys. They went on to say that after applying common sense and research, they became in favor of the rezoning.
I have dealt with attorneys before, and when I have disagreed with their advice I have stood my ground on my principles. The WLCA had a responsibility to protect the property values of this community. Instead they chose to listen to attorneys who don’t live here and have no real vested interest. That’s what they were elected to do: protect the community.
Now certain members and ex-members of the board are urging the community to trust a group that has threatened and destroyed two 18-hole courses because now we have no choice? I reject their assertion that we have to run into the arms of these scammers. As board members, they chose to give us poor options, and now they continue with the same poor advice under the ruse of “they’ve done their research.”
I think the shame and misjudgment still rests on their shoulders for not helping to find other options for this community. I am certainly no expert when it comes to golf courses or development. (Neither apparently is Mercer.) But I am not prepared to just give up and watch Walden Lakes Golf & Country Club be destroyed. I am grateful we now have a majority of members feel the same.
