A Plant City man was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon over the weekend after attacking his grandmother with a machete.
Anthony Wayne Griffith. 34, got into a physical dispute with his grandmother, 75-year-old Barbara Harvey, April 20 at approximately 4:28 p.m. at their residence off of Loghouse Road in Plant City.
The suspect then armed himself with a machete and attacked Harvey, causing deep lacerations to her face and upper body. The suspect called 911 shortly after the attack and explained what he had done. Griffith was arrested by Hillsborough County sheriffs deputies without incident and the victim was transported to Florida Hospital, before later being transferred to Tampa General Hospital.
As of 6 p.m. April 21, Harvey remains in intensive care.
