PLANT CITY HISTORY & PHOTO ARCHIVES INTERN PROGRAM OPENS FOR APPLICATIONS
The Plant City History & Photo Archives has announced its Intern Program is open for applications for the Summer 2025 term. The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in archives and history-center skills in a real-life setting.
The Intern Program was initiated in 2010, and has provided high school students, college undergraduate students, and graduate students learning opportunities in institution operations, accession and documentation procedures, historical research and writing, and archiving techniques.
The program is structured to be flexible in scheduling, and each intern is monitored by both a mentor, and by the organization’s director. Programs of work are set out in advance, and interns are provided with formats for daily journal entries and checklists. After the completion of the schedule, the intern is presented with an evaluation, a certificate, and a final report.
Applications for the Summer 2025 Term may be submitted beginning April 24 and must be received no later than June 6.
Interested students can obtain additional information and an application form by visiting the Photo Archives office, or by emailing gil@plantcityphotoarchives.org. The office is open for business Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 106 South Evers Street in downtown Plant City. The office telephone number is 813.754.1578. The email address is info@plantcityphotoarchives.org.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON POST-HURRICANE STORMWATER
Hillsborough County is hosting a series of eight public meetings to evaluate, and gather, public input about the cumulative flooding impacts of seasonal rainfall, and Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton.
Hillsborough County has engaged an outside engineering firm to conduct a thorough independent assessment of the impacts from 2024’s severe rain events on stormwater infrastructure. The next steps involve gathering additional input on how the storms affected the people and businesses of Hillsborough County. The public meetings will explore the extent of the impact, potential regional flood mitigation, and resiliency strategies.
Community input will be obtained during the public meetings. Residents are encouraged to attend these meetings to describe how the storm events affected roads, private property, and businesses. The eight public meetings will occur across the county, strategically placed to be close to residents who were impacted most by the storms. Residents also can learn about the assessment and provide feedback virtually through the Hillsborough County Education & Engagement Hub from April 15 to May 19.

PI DAY
Marshall Middle Magnet School celebrated Pi Day on March 14 with a fun-filled event organized by the math department, PBIS team, and Student Council led by Samantha Connors. Using dragon dollars earned for demonstrating good behavior, students had the opportunity to “pie” their favorite teachers. The event also featured a Pi digit reciting competition, where the student who correctly recited the most digits of Pi won an additional two pies to throw at a teacher of their choice. The school gives a big thank you to the Plant City Walmart for supporting the event by donating 32 cans of shaving cream that was used to make the pies. The staff and teachers love rewarding students who demonstrate positive behavior on campus, and look forward to seeing this event grow in the future!
