LIONS, NOT TIGERS OR BEARS
On April 8, the Plant City Lions Club presented a check for $31,269 to the Willis Peters Exceptional Center—Oh my!
The Center is part of the Hillsborough County Public School system and serves students with severe intellectual disabilities, limited cognitive functioning, deafness, and visual, language, speech and physical impairments. The 75 Center students are from three years old to 22. Nearly all activities across the campus are provided through this gift from the Lions Club, including materials, cooking supplies, communication devices, and money for trips.
The Lions Club motto is “We Serve.” Lions do whatever is needed to help their local communities. The group is one of the oldest and most prolific civic groups in Plant City.
FIRE RESCUE EXTINGUISHES AUTO FIRE
Engine 2’s crew wrapped up long morning of fire training, but there’s no rest for Plant City’s bravest! Instead, they rolled straight into a fully involved vehicle fire—with exposures. Quick action, sharp decision-making, and teamwork prevented further damage and kept everyone safe. Just another reminder that in this line of work, “routine” doesn’t exist—and readiness is everything. From the training ground to the fire ground, Plant City Fire Rescue shows up ready—every shift, every call.
MAN CHARGED FOR DUI IN PLANT CITY
TWO DEAD IN WRECK AT TURKEY CREEK AND US 92.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for driving under the influence following a crash that resulted in two deaths.
On March 9 at 3:07 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Turkey Creek Road south of US Highway 92 after reports came in regarding a head-on collision involving two vehicles. When deputies arrived, they located two adult victims who were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following a thorough investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Adrian Burnett, 37, on April 21. On April 22, Burnett turned himself in without incident at Orient Road Jail.
Burnett is facing the following charges:
• DUI Manslaughter (x2)
• Armed Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Possession of Cannabis Less than 20 Grams
“This tragedy is a painful reminder of the irreversible consequences of driving under the influence,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our hearts are with the victims’ families, and we remain committed to holding those who make reckless choices accountable.”
This is an ongoing investigation, and any further information will be provided by the Public Affairs Office.
