REUNITED ONCE AGAIN
Turkey Creek High School class of 1954 held its 70th Class Reunion on July 23, 2024.
The reunion was held at ABC Pizza on 114 N Alexander St.
There were 19 people who attended and 12 of them were classmates. We hope they had the best time reuniting and catching up with each other.
NEW TEACHER BREAKFAST
A New Teacher Breakfast will be held Friday, August 9, at the TECO Expo Hall on the Florida Strawberry Festival Grounds at 2301 W. Oak Ave. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. and runs until 9:00 a.m. New Teacher Breakfast is a way of welcoming new teachers and principals to Plant City. This event helps acquaint teachers with the community and, at the same time, provides an opportunity for local businesses to be involved in the education of our children. The Plant City Chamber is accepting sponsorships for items such as the breakfast buffet, decorations, name tags, printing and mailing costs, and centerpieces.
They are also asking for 200 smaller-type items for the goodie bags. Each teacher receives one of these bags filled to the brim with tokens from hometown businesses. Contributor’s names will be on the program and in the next Chamber Connections eNewsletter. The Plant City Chamber will be most grateful for your generous support in helping to make the 2024 New Teacher Breakfast a memorable occasion for those who inspire and teach our children daily. CANDIDATE FORUM
The Plant City Chamber Government Affairs Committee will present a Candidate Forum on Tuesday, August 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This event will be held at the TECO Expo Hall at 2301 W. Oak Ave. and is free and open to the public. This premier election event allows voters to meet candidates for all elected positions, from Congress to the county commission. This gathering is the pinnacle of election seats, drawing crowds of over 50 candidates and 400 constituents. There are sponsorship opportunities which include—title sponsor ($2,500), red ($1,000), white ($500), and blue ($250). TAXABLE PROPERTY VALUES
A preliminary review of sales data by the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s office reveals a notable slowdown in the local real estate market, with taxable property values rising by just 7.14 percent this year. This represents the lowest rate of increase in Hillsborough County in more than a decade.
“Taxable values” are property values after exemptions and agricultural classifications are considered. From 2018 to 2022, taxable property values in Hillsborough County rose between 9.84 percent to 14.72 percent. In 2023, the increase was 12.31 percent.
The 2024 Notice of Proposed Taxes will be mailed to all property owners in late August. County homeowners are encouraged to be vigilant in reviewing their notices.

SALUTE TO AG
The Plant City Chamber will host the annual Salute to Agriculture lunch on Thursday, August 8 at the Florida Strawberry Festival. This event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grimes Family Ag Center 2508 W. Oak Ave. The Salute to Ag Networking Lunch will showcase the diversity of agriculture. The presenting sponsor of this event is Farm Credit of Central Florida. The supporting sponsors are Fresh Pak Produce, Hillsborough Cattlemen’s Foundation, Florida Farm Bureau, and Florida Strawberry Growers Association (FSGA).
