Myrtle Lou Swindle
Myrtle Lou Swindle, age 93, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024. Born in Pierce, Fla., on Mar. 5, 1931, Myrtle Lou was the beloved daughter of Albert Franklin and Eva Irene (Sullivan) Brewer. Raised in Springhead with her siblings Irvin and Alberta, Myrtle Lou later moved to Dover, where she married Edward Swindle in 1950. The couple’s early years took them briefly to Camp LeJeune due to Ed’s service in the Marine Corps. They eventually returned to Dover to build their life and family. Together, Myrtle Lou and Ed embraced the challenges of farming, a passion they passed on to their sons, Larry and Rodney. Ed’s transition to the insulation industry did not diminish Myrtle Lou’s dedication to agriculture, and she played a crucial role in supporting the family’s farming endeavors. Their contributions to the agricultural community, including support for youth and education, were a testament to their joint efforts. Myrtle Lou was a passionate outdoorswoman, finding joy in hunting and fishing. She shared her love for these activities with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who cherish the memories of hunting trips and fishing outings with her. Known for her skill and quiet prowess in the field, Myrtle Lou’s enthusiasm for the outdoors was evident in her many achievements, including harvesting giant bull elk in New Mexico, reeling in impressive fish in the Gulf of Mexico and being one of few to repeatedly bag 2 gobblers opening morning with one shot. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dover, Myrtle Lou dedicated many years to the church choir and various ministries, embodying her faith through service. Myrtle Lou Swindle will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Larry Swindle (Debbie) of Dover and Rodney Swindle of Marianna; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Swindle) and Jason Conrad of Dover, Jonathan Swindle of Dover, Alysha (Swindle) and Nick Edenfield of Marianna, and Kimberly (Swindle) and Stewart Cooksey of Monticello; Great-grandchildren, Anna, Lauren, Shalee and Tucker Conrad, Madilyn (Conrad) and Andrew Worten, Ava and Alli Swindle, Gauge and Aubrey Edenfield, and Timberlynn Barber. Myrtle Lou was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-great-granddaughter, Laykin Drew Worten, due in September. Myrtle Lou’s kindness, beauty, and unwavering love will be remembered fondly, and her legacy will live on through her family. The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church Dover, 3223 Gallagher Road, Dover.
