Glendel William Cock (Glen)
Glendel William Cock (Glen) was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Meadows of Dan, Virginia, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, to William Taylor Cock and Glennie (Banks) Cock. He was baptized in the Dan River near his hometown at age 9. He attended Meadows of Dan High School where he lettered in basketball and was on the 1949-50 team that won state championship. He grew up on a farm milking cows and feeding chickens. He was in 4H, received awards in Future Farmers of America (FFA)for showing and judging dairy cows. He also raised Hereford hogs to make spending money. Glen graduated from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1954 with a degree in electrical engineering. He deferred his military service for a year and was hired by Tampa Electric Company (TECO) specializing in distribution engineering. He then went into the Air Force as a first lieutenant, attained the rank of Captain and was a pilot flying C119’s. He went back to TECO and worked there for 41 years until he retired. During this time, he became a Professional Engineer (PE), and was a life member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He was renowned as a National Electrical Code (NEC) expert and served as a witness in many court cases including at the Supreme Court. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brandon for over 60 years. He served as a member of the Sertoma club for over 60 years, Glen passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by family, on June 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Connell) Cock. He is survived by his son, David, (Christine), son Robert ‘Bob’ (Kimberly) and daughter, Jean (Joe) White and granddaughter Kaley. Shirley Mae Phillips
August 22, 1947 – June 6, 2024
Shirley Mae Phillips, aged 76, of Columbia, Kentucky passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, in Plant City Fla. She was a pillar of strength for her family.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Wayne Phillips. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her children: Steven Phillips (Dawn), Julie Dianne Phillips, Roger Phillips (Sherry), and Mark Phillips. Shirley was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and light into her life.
Shirley’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for her family will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A standing graveside interment will be held for the family at Memorial Park in Plant City on June 21, 2024, North Hwy 39. At 12 p.m.
A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s life will be the following Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Hillsborough State Park parking lot 3 at the recreational hall from 12 to 4 p.m.

WILLIS, Arthur Carroll
WILLIS, Arthur Carroll passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, at the age of 98. Known as Carroll, he was born and raised on a farm in Gray Court, South Carolina, and received his primary education at Gray Court-Owings School. At the age of 18, Carroll volunteered for the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served in the Philippines, Japan, and China. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946, he attended college at Mars Hill and Clemson Universities before going to work as a USDA inspector of agriculture. He married Martha Hellams, also of Gray Court, in February 1948. The couple moved up and down the east coast of the country with his job before ultimately settling in Plant City, Florida to raise their family. Carroll and Martha loved spending weekends and vacations at Englewood Beach, and they eventually made a second home there. He was an avid fisherman and fish-fryer. He and Martha were members of the First United Methodist Church in both Plant City and Englewood. Carroll was part of the United Methodist Men and enjoyed helping to serve pancake breakfast to the men of the Englewood church. He lost his beloved Martha in 2018 and he devoted himself entirely to her care in her final months. He was also predeceased by his parents, Townes and Annie Willis, his sister Kathryn (James) Puryear, and his son-in-law Barry Baker. He is survived by his three children, Michael (Sherry) Willis, Kathy (Barry) Baker, and Brian (Karen) Willis; five grandchildren, Shon Baker, Eric Baker, Crystal Willis, Brenton (Rachel) Willis, and Kariana (Cameron) Donley; and two great-granddaughters Ziva Willis and Blair Willis. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Plant City. Linda Landgren, 67, of Inverness, Fla., passed away on June 10, 2024. She was born in Plant City, Fla., on June 19, 1956, to the late Albert and Johnnie Lou Landgren. She spent her time raising her family. Her hobbies included traveling, watching movies and TV. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Annie Louise Tilley Moore; and siblings, James Landgren “PeeWee”, David Landgren, and Johnny William Landgren. Brenda Paulette Joyner Trammell
Brenda Paulette Joyner Trammell, 74, of Bostwick passed away Sunday June 16, 2024, at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, following an extended illness. A native of Plant City, Fla., Brenda had lived in Bostwick for the past 15 years, coming from Jacksonville. Brenda received her B.A. Degree from the University of Florida and then went on to teach in the Duval County Public School System for 33 years, retiring in 2008. She was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and loved to fish. She also loved animals and was especially proud of her Grand Champion steer she showed at the Florida State Fair. Brenda was of Baptist Faith and attended Bostwick Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Joyner and Pauline Frances Alderman Joyner. Brenda is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles Frank Trammell, her brother, Richard Joyner (Yolanda), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Services will be held Friday June 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Purity Church in Plant City, FL with her brother, Pastor Richard Joyner officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Plant City.
