Born in Waco, Texas, he was the son of Dario and Quirina Martinez Melendez.
He is survived by his wife, Conrada Ramos Melendez; children, Ignacio Melendez, Minerva Rodriguez, Ofelia Izaguirre, Rosa Ozune, Martha Lerma and Enemias Melendez Jr.; 23 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
