Georgia “Joy” Powell “Granny,” 89, of Plant City, died June 26, 2015.
She was a lunchroom cook at Pinecrest Elementary, having retired after 25 years of service, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved her family, enjoyed cooking for Sunday family gatherings and fishing.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene Powell (Tom Simone) and Diane Hinson (Talmadge); siblings, Alvin Lee, Lonnie Lee, Bonnie McCullough (Chris), Verna Ray Young and Denver Lee; lifelong friend, Sonia Sexton; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and many other “doll babies.” She was preceded in death by her husband, John “ Papa” Powell; children, Thomas Powell, Ronald “Rapo” Powell, Rhonda Colding and Johnny Powell.
A celebration of life was held June 29 at the historic Hopewell Baptist Church, where the family received friends. Committal followed at Hopewell Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made to HopewellFuneral.com.
