Irma Z. King, 93, of Lakeland, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 from heart failure. She was born in Plant City.
She graduated in 1942 with a bachelor’s degree from Florida Southern College. Mrs. King was an educator, teaching home economics at Plant City and English at Punta Gorda. She was director of Christian education at First United Methodist Church in Plant City, founder of St. John’s Methodist Church Cooperative Kindergarten in Norfolk, Virginia, and president of Grey Ladies in Yokosuka, Japan. She was a member of Wedgewood Antique Club and Alpha Chi Omega, in which she received her 75-year pin. She was a member of College Heights Methodist Church.
Her hobbies included gardening, bridge, reading, ikebana and her family.
Mrs. King is preceded in death by her husband, Capt. James Paul King; and son, Dr. James Robin King.
She is survived by daughter, Paula Simpson; granddaughters, Jamie McGee (Mark) and Samantha Brawley (Carson); great-granddaughter, Finley Alexis McGee; and sister, Alva Swilley.
A remembrance service was held at her home Sunday, Oct. 19.
