Rita T. Isom, 87, of Plant City, died Dec. 15, 2014 at Melech Hospice House.
Mrs. Isom moved to Plant City from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, more than 60 years ago. She earned a master’s degree from University of South Florida and taught at Jackson Elementary, Turkey Creek Elementary and Plant City High School. She was a principal at Pinecrest Elementary, a reading specialist for Hillsborough County and retired as an English teacher. Mrs. Isom was a devout Catholic and enjoyed art, reading and music.
Her husband of 60 years, Charles Isom, predeceased her, along with sister-in-law, Nan Isom; and granddaughter, Marina Laney. She is survived by daughters, Joan Isom and Louise Waldron (Tom); brother, Matthew “Bud” McKinney (Joan); sisters, Claire Ryan and Florence “Sissy” Pearson; grandchildren, Cecelia Nichols (Bryan) and Harmony Stewart (Kevin); and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Kayla and Charles.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, Dec. 19, at St. Clement Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church. Condolences may be made at WellsMemorial.com.
