Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Collins, 66, of Valrico, died April 20, 2015, after declining health for several years.
Born and raised in Danville, Virginia, he had worked alongside his father in produce since he was a small boy. Produce was the thrill of his day, the drive in his mind, the joy in his heart and the excitement of his life. He settled in Valrico in 1997, and he transformed a vacant lot into one of the most respected produce markets in the area. He worked night and day, not for the need, but for the love of produce and his lifelong vision.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lisa Collins; children, Tausha Ann Cooper (Casey), Ronald Lee Collins Jr., Buster Collins (fiancee, Kaci Compton), Jeff Collins (Michelle) and Jody Collins (Carolyn); grandchildren, Alyssa Cooper, Charles Cooper, and Ronald III, Carlos, Aaron, Noah, Megan and Nick Collins; siblings, Harriet Bray, Candice Collins, Robin Barrett and Harry Collins Jr.; nephew, Spencer Harrelson; mother-in-law, Barbara Spencer; and cousins, Bonnie Wilkins and Amanda Tarte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lee and Hazel New Collins.
A celebration of life was held April 24, at Hopewell Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at HopewellFuneral.com.
