An Amtrak train struck a vehicle Monday, Aug. 24, killing its unidentified driver, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The train was crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Jordan Road when it collided with a four-door Buick, authorities said. The train was heading from Miami to Tampa.

The driver of the Buick, whose name was not released, died when Hillsborough Fire Rescue arrived around 4:34 p.m., spokeswoman Jessica Coy said.

Although no details were released about the crash itself, FHP spokesman Steve Gaskins said the Buick was leaving a nearby auction.

None of the 147 train passengers were injured, Gaskins said. The train consisted of two engines and eight passenger cars. It did not derail and sustained minor damage.
