Last night a car veered off the road, crashing into a speed limit sign and then a tree. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver is in critical condition.
A passenger died Monday evening after a collision on Wiggins Road in Plant City.
Around 6:10 p.m. HCSO said a driver of a 2006 Saturn SUV was heading southbound on Wiggins Road, just south of US 92. The report said he was driving approximately 45 mph and for an unknown reason drove off the roadway to the west and struck a speed limit sign and then a tree at 801 Wiggins Road.
The driver was transported to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries and is in critical condition at this time. His passenger, who was in the right front seat, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to HCSO.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
