One dead in wrong way crash

A 24-year-old Lakeland man died after being ejected from his car during a wrong-way crash on State Road 60 at Bugg Road May 8.

At about 11 p.m., Jonathan Molina was driving a 2004 Mazda RX8 in the westbound, inside lane of State Road 60 when he was struck head on by a wrong-way driver, Avimael Hernandez-Sargento, 37, of Lake Worth, who was driving a 2000 GMC Sierra.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

Luis Aneudis Diaz, 34, of Valrico, was in front of Molina in the westbound, inside lane of State Road 60. Diaz was able to avoid being struck head on after he steered right. Hernandez-Sargento struck the left side of Diaz’s 2004 Mitsubishi Gallant before hitting Molina.

Post impact, Molina rotated and collided with semi truck driven by Ubeline Rivera, 51, of Tampa.

Molina, Hernandez-Sargento and Hernandez-Sargento’s passenger, Omar Hernandez, 26, of Lake Worth, were transported to Tampa General Hospital. Molina died at the hospital.
