In the midst of the tragedy that occurred Saturday evening, when a train collided with a 2020 Cadillac Escalade at the intersection of US-92 and Jim Lefler Circle that claimed six lives, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shared hopeful news of Guillermo Gama, the vehicle’s seventh passenger who was sitting in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, while still in critical condition and intubated, Gama’s expected to survive despite extensive injuries, which include a brain bleed, ruptured kidney and bruised lung.

“I can’t speak enough about the power of a community coming together to support and pray for the victims, families, and first responders involved in this heart-wrenching crash,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are hopeful about this young man’s recovery and remain committed to not only the investigation but the healing of all those impacted.”
