A 55-year-old Plant City man has been arrested after Hillsborough County deputies say he used a spy camera to film a family friend in her home without her knowledge.
Hillsborough County Deputies arrested Terry Sumner, 55, a Plant City resident who they say used a spy camera to film a family friend for approximately a year without her knowledge.
On an unknown date in 2018 Sumner placed a spy camera into a wall outlet in the living room of a family friend. According to the report he had access to her home and also had the WiFi password and alarm code to the residence.
Deputies say on March 5 the victim located the camera and contacted her internet provider who told her the camera had been linked to her home WiFi without her consent. Deputies came to Sumner’s Plant City apartment and he admitted to placing the camera in her home approximately a year ago. HCSO said he told deputies there was a smartphone app that he used to watch, listen and record activity in the home through a live feed.
Using a search warrant, HCSO found hundreds of videos of the interior of the victim’s home in Sumner’s phone. They also found numerous pictures of child pornography featuring victims under the age of 11 years old, who were also known to Sumner.
On March 26 HCSO used a court authorized search warrant on Sumner’s apartment and found “numerous items of evidence.” Sumner was arrested and charged with one count interception of wire, oral or electronic communications, 24 counts of possession child pornography, 24 counts of manufacturing child pornography, one count of lewd and lascivious molestation force or enticing, one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition and one count of capital sexual battery.
